I’m so excited for us to experience South Africa together! The focus of our trip will be spending time at the preschools supported by Build The Future (BTF), and we’ll definitely have plenty of time to play with the kids. We’ll also pitch in on whatever projects BTF needs done at the time—don’t worry, they’ll have something perfect for our group’s skills and energy levels. We’ll be visiting all of Build The Future’s projects during our time there, so you’ll get to see firsthand the amazing work they’re doing to support the community. It’s going to be an incredible trip!

Itinerary
Day 1: Depart US
Day 2: Arrive in Johannesburg (JNB) in the evening, check in to Cradle Moon Lakeside Game Lodge
Day 3: Attend church at Grace Bible Church, with an afternoon activity
Day 4: Work at Kya Sand Preschool
Day 5: Continue work at Kya Sand; evening travel to Durban, check in to Les Mouettes
Day 6 through Day 8: Visit Build The Future schools and projects in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN)
Day 9: Game drive and lunch at Thula Thula Private Game Reserve
Day 10: Afternoon departure from Durban (DUR), overnight flight to the US
Day 11: Arrive back in the US

In-country transportation, including domestic flights between Johannesburg and Durban

Airfare
The $1900 trip fee does not include airfare from the US to Johannesburg (JNB). Each participant will be responsible for booking their own flights. We are happy to assist with flight recommendations and travel plans if needed.
Important flight note
When booking your flights from the US to Johannesburg (JNB), this is an overnight trip. Book your departure from the US on May 30 to arrive in Johannesburg on May 31. For your return, book your departure from Durban (DUR) on June 8 to arrive in the US on June 9.

If Build The Future cancels the trip for any reason, all funds will be fully refunded.
If you withdraw from the trip:
Up to 90 days before the departure date: Full refund
61-90 days before the departure date: The $250 deposit is non-refundable
0-60 days before the departure date: All funds are non-refundable

We will be staying at two beautiful locations:
Cradle Moon Lakeside Game Lodge (Johannesburg): An unforgettable experience. This is where Joe walked with the giraffes. Visit their website.
Les Mouettes beachfront condos (Durban): Stunning views and beachfront access. Visit their website.

We will focus on spending time at the preschools, engaging with the children, and participating in projects at the Build The Future sites. Our work may include painting, organizing classrooms, or other hands-on tasks that align with the current needs of Build The Future.

Johannesburg: Breakfast and dinner will be provided at Cradle Moon Lakeside Game Lodge. We will pack lunches for the preschool workdays (typically PB&J sandwiches).
Durban: We will grocery shop for breakfast items to have in the condos and pack lunches for workdays at the preschools. Dinners will be at local restaurants, where you will cover the cost of any alcoholic beverages you may order.

On June 7, we will take a guided game drive at Thula Thula Private Game Reserve. This 2-hour drive from our condos offers the chance to see elephants, giraffes, zebras, rhinoceros, and other wildlife. Learn more about Thula Thula.
